    Offering for sale is this set of 5 Antique Civil War Era Bone Dice Nickle Plated Brass Pocket Case "BOVINE".
    The five dice measure approximately 1/4 of an inch. Case measures approximately 1.25 by .75 inches.

    There are no Schreger lines that are a unique overlapping pattern found in ivory. Because these are made of bovine beef cattle bones. All one sees in these dice (we took many 10X magnification photos of every side) are saw marks, striations and black dots found in bovine beef cattle bones

    Until the 1930s, every slaughter house in the world had secondary sources of income beside the meat. They sold the bones to companies that made everything you can think of out of the beef cattle bovine bones from Combs, Sewing Hooks, Doctors tongue depressors, knife scales, buttons and yes, bone dice made of the bovine beef bones. There are thousands of bovine bone products on eBay right this minute. Today most beef bovine bones from slaughter houses are pulverized into pet food and fertilizer called bone meal.
    The metal cylinder box is in excellent shape and the lid fits securely. Nice piece of Americana
