Offering for sale is this lot of three Antique Revolutionary War Bone Colonial Tax Dice. There are two 7/16ths inches and one half inch dice. Note these only have partial tax stamps worn from usage.

There are no, I REPEAT, NO Schreger lines that are a unique overlapping pattern found in ivory. Because these dice are made of bovine beef cattle bones. All one sees in these dice (we took many 10X magnification photos of every side) are saw marks, striations and black dots found in bovine beef cattle bones.
Until the 1930s, every slaughter house in the world had secondary sources of income beside the meat. They sold the bones to companies that made everything you can think of out of the BEEF cattle bovine bones from Combs, Sewing Hooks, Doctors tongue depressors, buttons and yes, BONE DICE made of the bovine beef bones after they harvested the meat. Today most of the beef cattle bones are pulverized into dog food and fertilizer called bone meal.
These dice are stamped with George Rex Royal Crown tax stamps; the Stamp Act was one of the reasons we went to war with England. The dice measure approximately 5/16ths of an inch. These came out of a large dice collection that we are selling. They are in excellent used condition for being around 250 years old - There is usage wear and patina - One can clearly make out "some" of the crown and GR letters of the tax stamps (one dice only the letter R that we can see) - There are remnants of the red ink that are still visible - Nice piece of Americana
