Gulf Coast Native SheepGulf Coast Native Sheep
descended from sheep brought by the Spaniards to the New World in the 1500?s. They are heat tolerant and parasite resistant.
Gulf Coast Native sheep are a
heritage breed and are listed as critically endangered by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy.
We have five ewes:
Dolly, Heidi, Clara, Emily, and Hannah.
We have a ram named Lambert.
We have them sheared in March.
The wool was sent for professional processing into roving and yarn.
We are enjoying this breed and hope to improve our farm in the future.
The fleece may have hay or vegetable mater in it.
