Build Your Own Transformer KitLearn how to wind your very own
step-up transformer
coil from scratch with this simple kit. Great for anyone from a beginner to the most advanced builder. After all, it's great to be able to say you made something from a handful of parts. It's something more to say you made the parts too.
The Club Jameco transformer project listed below is a basic and simple educational kit demonstrating how to build your own transformer. The project below was designed as a starting point to give you a basic core experience that you could work and experiment with. Please note that the design will vary dependent on an individual's design requirements.
Please share your comments and suggestions at The Power Transformer Kit design page, and check out what others are saying about the DIY Transformer project build!

WARNING:
If you are unsure of the dangers involved with your particular project, consult with someone who is experienced. Always wear eye protection and gloves. FAILURE TO INITIATE AND FOLLOW YOUR OWN SAFETY PROCEDURES MAY RESULT IN BODILY INJURY OR DEATH!
THE TRANSFORMER SHOULD NEVER BE CONNECTED DIRECTLY TO AC MAINS VOLTAGE. A 120 VAC @ 350mA (OR LESS) AC/AC ADAPTER IS ADVISED FOR THIS LEARNING TASK.
Note:
The order in which you wind the primary and secondary coils does not matter as long as the windings ratio is the same in the end. If you would like to build a
step-down transformer
, you would need to have more turns on the primary coil than the secondary coil (opposite of step up).
You Will Need:
120V AC/AC 350mA (or less) wall adapter (optional, for testing)
Soldering iron
Solder
Calculator
Electrical tape
