Been the wood of chose for fingerboards on the best stringed instruments and prized by top professional musicians for hundreds of years. These legendary woods are of course ebony and Brazilian rosewood.
Since Brazilian rosewood is now a protected species and has been banned for decades. it is illegal to harvest and export.
You can only acquire it if you purchase it from someone who aquired it pre ban many years ago
So it is extremely rare ,difficult to get and extremely expensive.  A small piece suitable for a fingerboard can cost anywhere for 0.00 to 0.00 depending on the grade if you could even find or aquire it .
The point being ebony is the absolute best wood you can probably realistically get today.
in my opinion they are equally good they just have slightly different tonal properties.
Rosewood is warmer with exceptional midrange. Ebony is crisp, bright and extremely responsive.
Ebony is legendary for it's beauty and durability. it is one of the most dense durable woods in the world.
You can't wear it out ! with minimal care such as simply taking a minute to rub on a fretboard conditioner once
Or twice a year it will easily last several lifetimes. You could play it every day pass it on to your grandkids
And they could pass it on to there grandkids.
Anything that is built well using ebony is heirloom quality.
Ebony is a extremely highly prized and expensive wood so this a great deal for wood of superior quality.
it is very likely ebony will also become banned within a few years it is already listed as  a "vulnerable " species

As you can see by the pictures this particular board is quite uniformly black . Typically with ebony the more
Uniform black the better the quality and more desirable. The black comes from the heart wood the most dense durable part of the tree.
These are already pre slotted for you accurately!  20  fret positions  24 " scale lenght. Slotted with the most accurate templates and highest quality Fret slotting blade available to ensure if you use these boards your instrument will play in tune with accurate intonation. Slots are .023 to accept standard guitar fretwire tangs.These boards are approximately 1-1/2" wide and should fit most cigarbox guitar necks or just buy a board 1-1/2" wide which should be readily available almost anywhere.  A fretboard of this quality will take your next build to another level .much better looking and sounding than cheap oak or poplar fretboards most builders use and aren't really suitable for instrument building. Every professional instrument builder knows if you want to build quality instruments that look good play well and sound great you absolutely have to begin by using quality tonewoods.
Please note .. i slotted this board with a 24" scale lenght for a very specific reason .the reason being 23"-24" scale is the ideal lenght for cigar box guitars which typically have a much smaller body than typical 6 string guitars .if you use a 25 or 25 1/2" scale you end up with a instrument with a ridiculously long and disproportionate neck.
it will be top heavy and uncomfortable to play because you will constantly be trying to hold up the unbalanced weight of the disproportionately long neck. Also i do not fret the board because it is always better to fret a instrument " after"  the fretboard has been glue to a neck blank and you have shaped your neck. You will
Have alot of difficulty properly shaping a neck that has frets already installed.
